Andy Shore reigns as king of the three setters. On May 7, he beat me 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 in a match that lasted three hours, including the warmup. In the first set, he survived triple set point against him, when he served at 5-6, love-40. Watch for this match on ESPN Classic. He followed this triumph with a three set win over Bill Denecour to move up to the number 6 spot.

Don't let this scare you away from the ladders. Most ladder matches don't even go two hours. And the two of you can suspend your match and finish it within two weeks if time becomes a problem.

There must be a woman in this club who can compete with Alexandra Lawson, the only woman on the Women's Singles Ladder. You don't have to be able to beat her; just call her up and enjoy a good singles match. And there must be two women who can take on Patti Kingston and Sue Moore, the only team on the Women's Doubles Ladder. Patti and Sue are two of the nicest people in the club; you're sure to have an enjoyable game of doubles.

I've been playing on the ladder a lot of years, and obviously it's not because I figured I'd shoot up to number one. But I enjoy a lot of good matches I wouldn't get if I didn't play the ladder. Try it! Read the ladder rules on the web site and call someone!
